Gastrointestinal Tract - Glandex® Glossary

Gastrointestinal Tract

An organ system comprised of many components, the gastrointestinal tract runs from the mouth down through the body and ends with the anus. It allows both humans and animals to take in, break down, and digest food. It also allows for the extraction of nutrients and the absorption of energy. One of the system’s most important functions is to expel indigestible solids as feces.
